Cooking Project

The project "The Cooking Show" is centered around illustrating the instinct to return to one's roots through exploring the medium of food.

Inspired by their childhood stories, Le brothers successfully depict a transformative journey of rich culinary experiences that are continuously evolving based on their life philosophies. The narrative begins in their youth, set against the context of Vietnam’s subsidy period, where the national economy faced significant challenges. At that time, food was primarily viewed as a necessity to survive, with little consideration for aspects such as flavor, aesthetics, safety, and cleanliness.

As times changed and the brothers became artists, they focused on what it meant to have a delicious meal, embracing an entirely new culinary perspective. Drawing from their past experiences with food, Le Brothers designed a research project to explore and recreate all the dishes they had tasted during their travels, deeply tied to the cultures, memories, and regions they had visited.

In collaboration with Italian artist Fausto Grossi, the project serves as a continuous performance work that merges Vietnamese and Italian cultures. Le Brothers and Fausto sourced local ingredients from places Le Brothers have visited, incorporating products from their own cultivation in the past artwork "We Grow Rice" into the project. With a strong emphasis on vegetarian cuisine, this initiative is part of the Le Brothers' broader series focusing on nature, with the central theme being the connection between humanity and nature.

Le Brothers have used the narrative of food as a premise to reflect on stories of identity within individuals. The culinary picture presented in "The Cooking Show" consists of dishes for the soul that delicately illustrate the culture, traditions, and roots, profoundly expressed through the structural nuances of the project. The project is still ongoing and may extend for a long time, with the motto of viewing cooking as a journey of life.
